Administrative Instructions were initially created under section 19 of the Public Service Act 1978. Although this Act has been repealed, section 19 of the Act has been preserved as 'Administrative Instructions' by Schedule 5 - General Transitional Provisions of the Public Sector Management Act 1994.
Though the majority of Administrative Instructions have been repealed—replaced by a Commissioner's instruction, public sector standard, approved procedure or regulation—six Administrative Instructions continue to be in force:
