All Senior Executive Service (SES) positions contain a minimum set of essential selection criteria in accordance with Approved Procedure 2.
The selection criteria for non-CEO SES positions have been aligned to the Five Core Capabilities contained in the Leadership Capability Profile. These are the capabilities that have been identified as the key success factors that the Government requires from its current and future leaders.
The focus or emphasis of each essential criterion may be determined by agencies; either by using the skills and behaviours detailed in th Leadership Development Profiles , or by developing their own. By choosing skills and behaviours that best reflect a position's role and classification level, agencies gain the benefit of greater flexibility and increased precision in candidate selection.
How to use the selection criteria
The Public Sector Commission is available to assist people managers in the implementation of the revised selection criteria, or to answer any queries for existing or aspiring members of the SES and members of the public.
A number of samples have been prepared to assist agencies in incorporating the SES selection criteria into their JDFs.
